Geography

Geography is not only up-to-date and relevant, it is one of the most exciting, adventurous and valuable subjects to study today.  So many of the world's current problems boil down to geography, and need the geographers of the future to help us understand them.

Geography students at Marsden Heights will develop skills in the following areas:

• Knowledge of the location of globally significant places – both terrestrial and marine – including their defining physical and human characteristics.
• Understanding the processes that give rise to key physical and human geographical features of the world and how they change over time.
• Collecting, analysing and communicating with a range of data gathered through experiences of fieldwork that deepen their understanding of geographical processes.
• Interpreting a range of geographical information sources including maps, diagrams, globes, aerial photographs and Geographical Information Systems (GIS).
• Communicating geographical information in a variety of ways including through maps, numerical and quantitative skills and extended writing. 

The intent of the geography curriculum at Marsden Heights is to allow pupils to engage with the world around them at a range of different scales, from issues in their locality, to contemporary global issues. To do this, pupils will gain a broad and balanced understanding of different places, people and environments, as well as how physical and human processes interact to shape and continually change the world. The curriculum will ensure that the pupils at Marsden Heights will have a broad and deep knowledge of the subject allowing them to engage with the geographical debates of today and tomorrow.
