At MHCC we are committed to providing a high-quality educational experience for all pupils. Our curriculum determines and underpins the whole ethos of our school. At MHCC, our personal, social and health education (PSHE) curriculum brings together citizenship with personal well-being, whilst promoting fundamental British Values. Lessons on health (emotional, physical and mental) are addressed through a range of lessons in all year groups. Safety in real life and online are also addressed through discreet lessons. This is also the case with areas such as British Values (taught in Year 9) as well as referencing them as a matter of course. Inclusion, equality and diversity are explored through lessons such as Hate Crime, Community Cohesion, Careers and stereotypes, amongst others. All year groups have age-appropriate careers lessons where pupils can explore the pathways open to them in the future. Although PSHE is taught through discreet lessons, it also underpins all activities, assemblies, and educational visits. It is intended that we will continue to offer a cohesive whole-school approach which enables our children to become healthy, independent and responsible members of society.
PSHE is vital in the development (emotional, physical, mental, social) of our pupils. As a subject it equips pupils to live healthy, safe, productive, capable, responsible and balanced lives. It supports them in making effective transitions, positive learning and careers choices in achieving economic wellbeing. A critical component in our lessons is providing opportunities for young people to reflect on and clarify their own values and attitudes and explore the complex and sometimes conflicting range of attitudes and values they might encounter now and in the future.
