We’re extremely proud of the Student Progress Centre here at Marsden Heights with its totally unique support provision. The Student Progress Centre provides a safe haven and all the care, support and guidance to help students and their families/carers through what is often a demanding time in a young person’s life. We believe we bridge the relationship between home, college and the student as we work alongside the family/carers to support the student as a whole – with consideration of their personal, social, emotional and academic development.
Our students first meet the team when they are about to embark on the transition from primary school to the College as our specialist staff facilitate and arrange visits and taster sessions. This gives our prospective students a feel for school life and gives them the confidence necessary to help them settle in quicker. Towards the end of their time here at Marsden Heights, the Centre provides careers advice and guidance, liaises with Further Education colleges and other post-16 providers and assists with the writing of CVs, completion of application forms and interview practice.
Each and every student is encouraged to visit the centre to access the support our specialised staff offer. We provide academic support with the provision of homework clubs, group working and mentoring and by helping them develop key skills such as effective revision, time management and organisational skills. Where appropriate we can arrange for support on a one-to-one basis.
