Year 9 Cyber Mega Day Tammy Quinn / 26 January 2026 / Categories: General A group of Year 9 students were invited to a MEGA workshop at Nelson and Colne College on 20th January for a hands-on day of digital challenges to unlock future tech skills. Through sessions focused on Idea Creation, Rapid Prototyping and Presenting Their Ideas, students were challenged to work in groups to design either a product or app. The design brief asked for the creation to help solve a global Issue; our groups choose recycling and education for all. The task involved the students coming up with an idea, researching the market, thinking about their target audience, designing a logo and slogan for their brand, using AI platforms to create a prototype and producing and delivering a presentation using Canva. One Marsden Heights team, entitled 'Envirobot,' were successfully awarded third place against eight other teams. Their idea was to solve the issue of litter in schools. They designed a robot that would have CCTV that could help litter-pick and recycle items found but also support the school to identify students who maybe dropping litter so teachers could educate and help them correct their behaviour. Mrs Ross, Careers Lead, said: “I’m really proud of the efforts of the Marsden Heights teams. Our students worked really well together, developing their decision-making skills, creativity, communication, teamwork, digital, presentation and problem-solving skills."
