Year 10 Students Shine Tammy Quinn / 14 July 2026 / Categories: General Thirty Year 10 students have successfully completed a fantastic week of work experience during the week commencing 6th July, gaining valuable insight into the world of work and receiving excellent feedback from employers. Before the half-term break, we introduced this exciting opportunity for a selected group of students to take part in a week-long placement with local employers. They were encouraged to secure their own placements, allowing them to experience a real working environment while developing essential employability skills and confidence ahead of Year 11. Throughout the week, our students represented the school exceptionally well. Employers praised their punctuality, professional appearance, positive attitude and willingness to learn. They also demonstrated maturity and enthusiasm by asking thoughtful questions, using their initiative and embracing new challenges. The placements offered a wide variety of experiences across different industries, including car dealerships, pharmacies, primary schools, pre-school nurseries, play centres, pet stores, supermarkets and restaurants. This gave students the chance to explore potential career pathways while gaining first-hand experience of workplace expectations. Students took part in a range of meaningful tasks, including sending emails to companies, checking in customers, replenishing stock, printing medication labels, checking prescriptions, serving customers, maintaining clean and safe work environments, packing products and working as part of a team. Others observed colleagues in specialist roles, assisted with MOTs and vehicle maintenance, stripped an engine, supported teachers in lessons, interacted with young children and participated in planned educational activities. One particularly memorable experience came from Anisa, who completed her placement at a local pharmacy. During her week, she had the opportunity to observe a robotic dispensing system measuring and preparing medication, providing a fascinating insight into how technology is being used within healthcare. Mrs Ross, Careers Lead, said: “The positive feedback received from employers highlights the professionalism, dedication and maturity shown by our students throughout the week. Many employers commented on how engaged and eager the students were to contribute to their workplace.” We would like to thank all the parents, carers, staff and local employers who supported our students in securing these placements and making the experience such a success. Their commitment has provided our young people with an invaluable opportunity to broaden their horizons, develop important life skills and make informed decisions about their future education and career pathways. We are incredibly proud of all 30 pupils and look forward to seeing how this experience inspires them as they continue their journey into Year 11 and beyond. Well done to everyone involved!
