Rowing to Victory Tammy Quinn / 04 February 2025 / Categories: General Our Year 8 crew were recruited for the exciting scheme in November 2024 to learn a new sport and train with coaches at Agecroft Rowing Club in Salford in partnership with All Aboard Youth Rowing. Their weekly training and preparation at Salford Watersports Centre certainly paid off when they competed in the Indoor Rowing Championships in Warrington on 16th January 2025! 400 young people took to the rowing machines to represent schools from across the Northwest and Marsden Heights’ claimed top spots on the podium. Umar won GOLD in the Greater Manchester Schools individual finals and the Relay team won a SILVER overall. Mr Delve, Principal, said: “This is a truly amazing achievement by the MHCC Rowing team – all their efforts and hard work paid off! Congratulations.” We will be welcoming Para Olympian Gold medallist Gregg Steveson on 13th February, to present the medals to the competition squad in assembly. Well done to our exceptional rowing crew: Umar A, Zeeshan A, Eesa A, Yousaf E, Yahya H, Elliott J, Gabriel KB, Raees M, Mohammad SH and Talha Y. The group will carry on their weekly training sessions until July 2025 with the next sporting challenge including a summer competition. Each week they build up their knowledge and skills to move from land-based practice to the water. They've learned boat handling, safety checks, and core physical conditioning techniques. Mr Delve adds: “Experiencing a new sport, such as rowing, is a wonderful and inclusive opportunity for Marsden Heights’ pupils, which will build both their athletic skills and personal growth. This will equip them with skills that will benefit them throughout their lives.” Previous Article Positive Voices Become United Learning Peer Leaders Next Article Introducing Principal Mr Delve
