Introducing Principal Mr Delve Tammy Quinn / 04 February 2025 / Categories: General Marsden Heights’ Marketing Ambassadors wanted to learn more about their new Principal Mr Delve and his high aspirations for the school and pupils: Why did you get into teaching? My passion for Physical Education drew me into teaching. I spent the first 13 years of my career as a PE teacher and loved every minute of not just delivering lessons through the curriculum but also offering an extensive programme of extra-curricular opportunities in football, basketball, tennis, trampolining, badminton and many more. I love the challenge that every day in teaching brings and the opportunity to make every child's school experience a great one. How did you get started with your career? My career began in 2005 as a PE teacher at a school in Chadderton, Oldham. I trained at another school in St. Helens for my first teaching practice before a second placement at the Chadderton school in 2004 before I was offered the job in readiness for September 2005. I then progressed and joined United Learning with The Hyndburn Academy in 2018 as an Assistant Head Teacher. What motivated you to be a Principal? I am motivated by being afforded the opportunity to create a school that provides the best possible learning experience for every student that enters our doors. I wanted this platform, as Principal, to create a school that is aspirational, supportive, experience-rich and provides all pupils the opportunity to attain the best possible grades. My aim is to support pupils to learn and develop the full repertoire of skills required to enable them to access the next level of education, university, and future career paths that allow them to have a life fulfilled. All whilst having a wonderful experience, meeting new people and having brilliant opportunities. What are your long-term career goals? My long-term goal is to produce a school that has a wonderful learning feel each and every day. A school where pupils truly belong and feel proud to be part of this wonderful institution. I want to create a school where all pupils thrive and prosper, where they feel fully supported and the educational experience afforded is both engaging and aspirational. My vision is for us to become the best United Learning school in the North, and beyond. What have been your past achievements? To become the Principal at Marsden Heights was my goal and it is a fantastic achievement. In my life, I have a wonderful family and group of friends, for which I am truly grateful; I see this as a personal achievement. I have enjoyed many sporting achievements in football, running and volleyball; most of which are not on any sort of high level, however, I am very proud of them as they are important to me. What will you do to ensure that Marsden Heights Community College becomes better and more wonderful? I will make sure that the pupils are at the forefront of all of our decisions, that both the pupils and staff are given a voice, and that together our mantra of hard work, trust and fairness shines through in everything that we do. I will also keep working hard in ensuring the curriculum, extra-curricular, opportunities, the building, and the people at the school are all the best that they can be so that our pupils have the best experience possible and are fully prepared for the world ahead.
