Marsden Heights Alumni: Aqil Javed Tammy Quinn / 18 November 2025 / Categories: General We were delighted to welcome back former Marsden Heights Community College Head Boy, Aqil Javed, as part of our exclusive Marsden Medics careers initiative. Aqil left Marsden Heights in 2012 and went on to study A Levels in Biology, Chemistry, and Physics, alongside AS Level English at Nelson and Colne College. His ambition to study Medicine led him through the rigorous application process, but despite his efforts, he was unsuccessful due to the highly competitive nature of the field. Undeterred, Aqil pursued a degree in Biomedical Science at Bradford University. After graduating, he moved to London, where he worked in pharmaceutical sales for three years. In 2021, Aqil returned to Nelson to complete his Teacher Training at Nelson and Colne Sixth Form College. Today, he is the Curriculum Leader for A Level Sciences and teaches A Level Biology. As part of the Marsden Medics programme, a unique partnership with Nelson and Colne College, Aqil will provide guidance and support to students aspiring to careers in medicine. This initiative will offer invaluable insight into the medical profession and aims to broaden access to these opportunities. Reflecting on his return, Aqil said: “It is fantastic to return to Marsden Heights and give students here access to this type of opportunity, widening the demographic those experiencing a pathway to Medicine.” Previous Article Launching Marsden Medics Next Article Creating Connections
