Launching Marsden Medics Tammy Quinn / 18 November 2025 / Categories: General Marsden Medics, in partnership with Nelson and Colne Sixth Form College, has launched an exciting programme for twenty ambitious Year 10 students from Marsden Heights Community College and The Hyndburn Academy. At a special launch event, these aspiring medics met the dedicated team who will guide and support them on their journey toward careers in healthcare and medicine. The programme is led by an experienced team of educators, including Dr Nelson from Hyndburn Academy, Miss Afzal from Marsden Heights, alongside Mrs Graham, Head of Division for Science, Maths and Computer Science, and Mr Javed, Curriculum Leader for Sciences at Nelson and Colne College. Mrs Ross, Careers Lead for both schools, said: “Myself and the team were highly impressed by the quality of student applications received; they really reflecting the students’ determination and passion for the medical field.” This talented group has set ambitious goals, with dreams of careers in nursing, dentistry, radiology, dermatology, general practice, psychiatry, and more. Through Marsden Medics, they will embark on a fact-finding journey packed with opportunities, including college visits, meetings with medical professionals, university trips, and tailored support for college applications. Here’s what some of the students had to say: Saim (MHCC): “I applied for Marsden Medics to gain knowledge and experience of the pathway to medicine. I would like to become a doctor.” Aun (MHCC): “I believe Marsden Medics is going to give me an introduction to Medicine and a view into what it is like. With visits to colleges and the opportunity to speak to teachers there, I’m hoping to find out if this is the path for me.
