Engineers in the Making Tammy Quinn / 21 May 2025 / Categories: General We are beyond thrilled and proud to announce the exceptional success of our students in the national "If I Were an Engineer, What Would I Do?" competition! Congratulations to our award-winning students: Regional Winners: Azlaan (Yr 7), Ayesha and Muhammad (Yr 8), and Ayra (Yr 9) Highly Commended: Angus and Ismail (Yr 7), Fatimah (Yr 8), and Jaweriya and Abu (Yr 10) We are also delighted to announce that over 400 certificates will be presented to our students who entered the competition and achieved Pass, Merit, or Distinction. This is testament to their creativity and effort in a competition designed to inspire the engineers of tomorrow. The budding engineers, along with their families, have been invited to attend a special Award Ceremony at Edge Hill University on 11th June to celebrate their brilliant ideas and hard work. Open to students aged 3–19 across the UK, the competition coincided with National Careers Week and World Engineering Day, encouraging young minds to explore the engineering sector. As part of the project, Marsden Heights students interviewed a professional engineer to gain real-world insight and inspiration for their own innovative designs. With over 75,000 entries from more than 25 regions, the competition was fierce. Entries were carefully assessed and shortlisted by engineers, who were impressed by the standard of work submitted by our students. Some of the standout ideas from Marsden Heights included: A safety pen with an emergency alert system and personal contact details; A school desk equipped with an in-built interactive screen to support accessible learning for deaf and blind students; and An earthquake-resistant structural support to enhance building safety. At the celebration event, there will be a special exhibition to showcase the most imaginative designs from this year’s entries, offering a glimpse into the inventive minds of local students. Mrs Ross, Careers Lead at Marsden Heights, said: “I am so happy that these students have been recognised as engineers in the making! The competition organisers commented that they have never seen a school enter the competition for the first year and see so many students achieve this level of success. We are so proud and can’t wait to celebrate with their families at the ceremony.” Previous Article Boxing and Mentoring Next Article Building Futures
