Building Futures Tammy Quinn / 10 June 2025 / Categories: General On Wednesday 5th June, our Year 8 Marsden Makers had the fantastic opportunity to attend the UCLan Architecture Degree Show in Preston. The visit was designed to raise aspirations among students who have a growing interest in design, recycling, upcycling, and sustainability. During their visit, students explored the inspiring work of undergraduate architecture students, met university tutors, and took part in a tour of UCLan's Architecture Department. They also attended the Degree Show awards presentation, gaining valuable insight into the world of architectural design and creative thinking. Marsden Makers is a passionate group of Year 8 students dedicated to craft and design with a strong focus on sustainability. They have been working closely with Ben Pearson, Community Producer from Ripple Effect, part of Super Slow Way, on a number of creative projects. The next project will be an exciting long-term project to regenerate the Gas Tower at Brierfield. This iconic listed building by the canal is set to be transformed into a vibrant exhibition or community space over the next 2–3 years. Marsden Makers will collaborate with Ripple Effect and UCLan's Architecture Department throughout the project. Ben Pearson, Super Slow Way, praised the students, saying: “I just wanted to say what a credit the young people who came to the UCLan Degree Show are to the school. They were enthusiastic, polite, interested and excited. I see a few budding architects in the making!” The Marsden Makers team are an inspiration, and we look forward to seeing their continued involvement in this regeneration project.
