¡Olé! Spanish Enrichment Day Tammy Quinn / 01 July 2025 / Categories: General We were delighted to host a Spanish Enrichment Day for our Year 10 students, designed to boost enthusiasm, confidence and ambition in the subject. The day offered a dive into Spanish language and culture – complete with Flamenco dancing! The event aimed to reignite students’ interest in their GCSE Spanish course, while introducing them to the richness of the Hispanohablante world. Students met their new teachers, talked about the importance of language learning, and explored how their own generation, 'Gen Alpha', is naturally creative with language and already skilled in adapting communication in unique ways. The day included a variety of engaging activities, such as chocolate-themed challenges rooted in Spanish-speaking cultures and traditional festivals. A particular highlight was the interactive “Cueva del Dragón” session led by Burnley College, where students enthusiastically pitched imaginative product ideas, from sunglasses to bananas, in Spanish. The visiting college staff praised the students for their strong language skills, their engagement and and willingness to present confidently in front of their peers. One Year 10 student shared: “I like Spanish because I like to learn different languages. Also, it will help me to get a job and make me stand out from those who do not study a language.” Lunchtime featured a taste of Spanish cuisine with tapas and even a piñata, adding a celebratory and fun element to the day. In the afternoon, students impressed with their work on GCSE-style picture prompts, showcasing not only their writing skills but also a deepening understanding of the language. The day ended with energetic Flamenco taster sessions, where students even surprised themselves with their rhythm and flair! Mrs P Russell, Teacher of MFL and EAL Lead, said: “A brilliant day and the students did us proud. They wowed me with their practise writing with picture prompts - a key part of their GCSE exam. Thanks to everyone who supported the enrichment day.” Previous Article TeenTech Festival Next Article Students Host Charity Cricket Match
