"You're Hired!" Tammy Quinn / 25 February 2026 / Categories: General A huge congratulations to our successful students who proudly heard the words “You’re Hired!” and stepped into an incredible work experience opportunity on 24th February. Selected from an impressive 75 applications, our young apprentices spent the day working alongside teams across the school, including the Principal, Careers, Learning Support, Community, Progress Teams, Subject Departments, and more. Their enthusiasm, professionalism, and ambition shone throughout the day. This initiative forms part of a modern-day work experience programme, giving students the chance to set personal targets, work towards them with a staff mentor, and reflect on their achievements at the end of the day. Applications were open to students in Years 7, 8, and 9, and the response was overwhelmingly positive. Feedback from students was exceptionally positive, with many noting how rewarding, and surprisingly tiring, the world of work can be! They spoke proudly about the new skills they developed and the responsibilities they took on. Year 7 Fatima – Admin Assistant “I helped reception by sharing messages and delivering things to classes. I developed new skills such as patience, helping out in the community and working with a team.” Year 7 Manahil – Dance Teaching Assistant “I helped Mrs Burgoyne organise cupboards, stapling papers and sorting classwork. In the future I will be able to talk more confidently to others.” Year 9 Fatima – Spanish Teaching Assistant “I have been rating books and creating a presentation. New skills include talking more confidently, teamwork, resilience, adapting, problem-solving and hard work!” Year 9 Aroosh – Sport Assistant “I assisted Miss Rawstron in PE classes, marked student answers and organised storage rooms. I have learnt about organisation, how to teach and how to problem-solve too.” Year 7 Husayn – Careers Officer “I had meetings and learnt more about the NHS, which helped me develop skills in teamwork, confidence and listening.” Members of staff across the school were incredibly impressed with the students’ appearance, punctuality, manners, effort, communication, and ability to follow instructions. Mrs Burgoyne, Teacher of Geography, spoke about her apprentice: “Manahil was super attentive and was given a huge task, which she completed to a good standard. I would absolutely employ Manahil—she was diligent, efficient and effective at all her tasks.” Mr Delve was full of praise for Year 8 Ayaan: “Ayaan was excellent. He walked the school with me, attended a business meeting, helped with Year 11 exam preparation and came on break duty. He is a Principal in the making!” Marsden Heights’ Apprentice Day was a brilliant opportunity for students to step into real working roles, build confidence, and explore possible future careers. Their dedication and maturity made the day a huge success. Mrs Ross, Careers Lead, added: “Well done to all our apprentices, you represented yourselves with pride and professionalism. We can’t wait to run the programme again next year.” Previous Article Exploring T Level Health
