Year 10 Eco Duniya Join Champion Species Project Tammy Quinn / 17 March 2026 / Categories: General Marsden Heights’ Year 10 Eco Duniya students are taking part in an exciting new partnership with the Forest of Bowland National Landscape and Ribble FM and Radio Burnley, contributing to a creative project celebrating some of our region’s rarest wildlife. The initiative, called Champion Species, focuses on iconic local species such as the brown long-eared bat and curlew wading bird. Students will help create a mini‑podcast series exploring these species and their importance to the Bowland landscape. Students will be involved work with Liz Robertson, presenter from Ribble FM and Radio Burnley, and will have their ideas and voices featured on-air as they help develop the podcast content. A wildlife expert will visit school to introduce the species and support students’ research and they will also have the chance to see these species up close in the Forest of Bowland, deepening their understanding of local biodiversity. They will contribute to a creative exhibition, with their poetry, prose, and artwork inspired by the species displayed in a public exhibition later this year. Mash Hussain, Senior Youthwork and Community Worker, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for students to combine creativity, science, and real‑world media experience while helping to champion the wildlife on our doorstep.” Previous Article Students Celebrated at University of Oxford
