Road Safety Education Tammy Quinn / 30 April 2025 / Categories: General This week at Marsden Heights, we were pleased to welcome visitors from the Lancashire County Council (LCC) Fire and Rescue Service, working in partnership with the LCC Road Safety Team. Their visit was part of an important event aimed at teaching pupils about road safety and the dangers of irresponsible driving. The visit comes at a time when there is growing concern in the Nelson and Brierfield areas about road safety. The local police, emergency services, and road safety officers are working together to help raise awareness and encourage safe choices.. During the event, Year 10 pupils took part in an assembly that focused on the risks of dangerous driving and what it means to be a responsible passenger. After the assembly, students had the chance to take part in several hands-on activities. Using virtual reality (VR) headsets, they experienced a car crash scene from the point of view of both emergency services and victims. It helped pupils understand the life-threatening injuries that can happen to drivers and passengers in real accidents. There were also stations that taught how to stay safe while cycling on the road, the importance of stopping distances for cars, and the rules for using pedestrian crossings. We also shared a helpful road safety information with Progress Groups to make sure everyone knows how to cross the road safely, to help keep both pedestrians and drivers safe. This visit was a powerful reminder that every choice we make on or near the road matters. Whether you're walking, cycling, or riding in a car, it's important to stay alert, make safe decisions, and look out for one another.
