Community Iftar at Marsden Heights Tammy Quinn / 24 March 2025 / Categories: General On 18th March, we invited Marsden Heights pupils, parents, family, friends and community members to join us in supporting our annual Community Iftar. In its third year, this event is a special opportunity to bring our community together in the spirit of unity, understanding, and generosity. Working in partnership with Pendleside Hospice and welcoming the Minhaj Welfare Foundation to the team this year, the event was the best yet! From 100 guests at our very first event to over 350 this year, not only have we seen our attendees grow but we have also seen more community members and organisations support our event, in aid of Pendleside Hospice. Guests heard welcome speeches from Principal Mr Delve, the Minhaj Welfare Foundation and Pendleside Hospice, before hearing a moving memorial speech by Elisha Arif. There was a Ramadan presentation by Imam Ghulam Mustafa Nawaz, before Abdul Jabbar performed the Dua (special prayers) and Azaan (call to prayer.) The fast opened at 6.24pm with all our guests sharing a delicious iftar meal and enjoyed making new acquaintances and celebrating the power of community. Staff, pupils, parents and friends of Marsden Heights showcased the warm and welcoming environment of our school and the impact of coming together as a community, to support the Pendleside Hospice charity and its service users. A special thanks to Muhammad, Year 11, who addressed the iftar guests and said: “I’m proud to be a part of a school that not only excels academically but also prioritises community togetherness. Marsden Heights will always be a place that holds events like the Community Iftar that bring us together, strengthening our bonds.” As always, pupils were keen to support our event. Alongside Muhammad, thanks also to Zainab, Maahir and Trinity, Year 11, and Fizaan, Year 9, who was an outstanding host throughout the evening. Mr Delve, Principal at Marsden Heights said: “It is wonderful to have the opportunity to collaborate for special events such as these, which bring pupils, families and community members together, and to be a community college for the community. “We are proud to work with Pendleside Hospice and the Minhaj Foundation; thank you to Miss Khan, Family Liaison Officer, and everyone who supported the event - it was a huge team effort.” Previous Article Marsden Heights is one of the Happiest Schools in East Lancashire Next Article Maths Feast
