Marsden Heights Welcomes Gold Medallist Paralympian Gregg Stevenson Tammy Quinn / 26 February 2025 / Categories: General In a display of achievement and inspiration, Gregg Stevenson MBE, a gold medal-winning Paralympic rower, visited Marsden Heights to present medals to the school’s outstanding rowing crew. The motivational visit by the decorated athlete was organised in celebration of the pupils’ impressive accomplishments in the sport. The team have been training weekly at Salford Watersports Centre, before competing in their first competition - the Indoor Rowing Championships in January. Marsden Heights claimed top spots on the podium, with Umar winning gold in the Greater Manchester Schools individual finals and the relay team winning a silver overall. Double-amputee Gregg, who earned his gold medal in the mixed double sculls at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, was welcomed with great excitement by pupils and staff. At the special assembly, Gregg presented medals to the whole team as a symbol of their skill, commitment and dedication. They were all pleased to receive their rewards from such an inspiring figure. He talked to pupils about his journey from overcoming challenges to achieving the pinnacle of rowing success. His message to the students was clear: with passion, hard work, and the right mindset, anything is possible. As the event concluded, the athlete took photos with the pupils and offered words of encouragement, leaving behind a sense of pride and inspiration. For the school’s rowing team, this was a memorable day and one that will drive their passion for rowing.
