Empowered Voices Tammy Quinn / 13 October 2025 / Categories: General On Wednesday 8th October at Marsden Heights Community College, student leadership took centre stage during an inspiring visit from Oliver Ryan MP. The meeting provided a platform for our Student Leaders to engage in meaningful dialogue about civic responsibility, the workings of Parliament, and the power of youth voice. Head Student Inayah, Deputy Head Student Alian, and Prefects Jannat and Mohammad, Yr 10, and Momana, Yr 9, represented MHCC and spoke confidently about their leadership responsibilities and initiatives in school and the community. Inayah, Year 11 Head Student, said: “The meeting with Oliver Ryan MP was insightful. We delved into the workings of Parliament and gained perspective on the challenges of being a Member of Parliament. We also discussed strategies for empowering students to raise our voices effectively.” The visit was a celebration of the many leadership opportunities available at Marsden Heights, including Prefects, Positive Voices, Subject Ambassadors, and the Student Leadership Team who drive school-wide initiatives such as The Respect Challenge, fostering a culture of mutual respect and inclusivity. Mr Delve, Principal, added: “I could not be prouder of these young leaders. In the meeting with Oliver Ryan MP, they demonstrated how the many roles and opportunities for young people in our school reflect our commitment to nurturing confident, articulate, and socially aware young leaders.” Oliver Ryan MP shared his admiration for the students: “It was a pleasure to visit Marsden Heights Community College and be shown around by the new Headteacher, Mr Delve. Meeting a selection of Student Leaders and hearing directly from them about the fantastic community work they’re involved in was genuinely inspiring. Their confidence and engagement reflect a school that takes real pride in giving young people a voice.” Previous Article Pendle Engage & Explore Careers Fair Next Article BAE Systems Returns for Year 7 STEM Roadshow
